Beginning The Beaux Stratagem

On Monday the cast and creative team for The Beaux Stratagem met for our first rehearsal! I'm so excited to be a part of this amazingly talented and awesomely creative group of individuals. The set, costume, lighting, and Restoration Comedy concept will show itself to be a raucous for our modern audience! I'm excited to begin my senior thesis project on the role of Hounslow the Henchman and my understudy role of Sir Charles Freeman. We began our rehearsal process with a presentation and workshop on Standard British and Cockney accents. It was fascinating to learn about the intricacies of dialects and how a people's culture influences linguistics. It's easy to say that the cast is already having too much fun playing with our new accent and dialect work.

It astounds me how stories that were written hundreds and hundreds of year ago remain relevant, entertaining, and poignant for audience's with an advanced point of view and different social perspectives.
